Alathea Letaw, PhD
Founder & Data Scientist
Alathea is a data scientist and ecologist. An alumnus of the University of British Columbia and the University of Oregon, she has over 10 years of experience applying quantitative solutions to data problems. She is a specialist in the R programming language with expertise in model building, data wrangling, plot design, package development, and others.
Alathea studied bromeliad invertebrate communities, conducting her field work in rural Brazil. Bromeliads are a family of tropical plants that house insect larvae and aquatic invertebrates within their leaf wells. By obtaining nitrogen from the activities of the invertebrates they contain, bromeliads are able to live in low-nutrient environments, such as in sandy soil, and on trees.
Alathea is a member of the Washington Native Plant Society, the Ecological Society of America and the Bromeliad Working Group. She is a proponent of open and reproducible science.
